KS3 Oracy Unit 5: Think It Through | Reasoning, Evidence + Debate
Talk is how we think together. This unit trains reasoning aloud: giving grounds, weighing evidence, spotting weak arguments and changing minds - including one's own - with grace. It ends in a full-class structured deliberation. One pack, three ways to teach it: a Launch Assembly (script + deck), six no-prep Form Tutor sessions (15-20 min) and six Full Lessons (50-60 min), all with decks. The six sessions: 1) Claims and reasons 2) How strong is the evidence? 3) Name that fallacy 4) Two sides, one mind 5) Changing minds well 6) The deliberation. Also included: Teacher Guide, dyslexia-friendly Knowledge Organiser, Pupil Oracy Log and a References & Acknowledgements page. Fully scripted with model answers. Builds critical thinking and media literacy alongside oracy. Ready for the 2028 statutory framework. Aligned to the Oracy Skills Framework (Voice 21 & Oracy Cambridge, University of Cambridge; (c) Voice 21 and the University of Cambridge, 2018), an openly published framework.
